Our School Upper Merion Baptist Nursery School was opened in 1970 as a ministry of the Upper Merion Baptist Church. It is operated by a Board composed of parents, staff, and church representatives. We welcome students of all races, religious affiliations, and ethnic origins.
	Our Staff The state approved Director oversees and coordinates the total operation of the UMBC Nursery School. Each class is under the direction of a teacher certified in Early Childhood Education and a highly qualified assistant. The special skills and training each bring to their job are enhanced by participation in professional workshops and conferences.
Our Philosophy We believe it should be fun to be a learner. Joy in learning comes from a sense of self-worth. we affirm each child as a special creation of God. Emphasis is placed on nurturing the child's self confidence, imagination, and creativity within a supportive and caring atmosphere. It is our purpose to provide the experiences desirable for the healthy growth of the young child - mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally. We believe each child needs to discover a way of relating to life experiences rather than learning a prescribed body of material. The curriculum includes elements which enable the child to explore his/her feelings, relationships with others, and the environment. Our emphasis is on developmental readiness. We believe that learning occurs in ways unique to each child, and that it often takes place only when the child is ready for it.
